From our neighbor Rob: If you're in the neighborhood, please feel free to stop by, browse the titles on offer, and borrow a book or contribute one of your own. The library includes titles for both kids and grown-ups. Location: 1757 S. Hayworth Ave. Good morning Wilshire Community,
this is a community alert regarding thieves targeting catalytic converters. A catalytic converter is a vehicle emissions control device that converts toxic pollutants in exhaust gas to less toxic pollutants, by catalyzing a redox reaction (oxidation of reduction). Catalytic converters are used in internal combustion engines fueled by either petrol (gasoline) or diesel-including lean burn engines. Because of the external location and the use of valuable precious metals including platinum, palladium, rhodium, and gold, converters are a target for thieves. The problem is especially common among the following vehicles, Honda, Acura, Toyota and Lexus trucks and SUVs because of their high ground clearance and easily removed bolt-on catalytic converters. Theft removal of the converter can often inadvertently damage the car's wiring or fuel line resulting in dangerous consequences. Rises in metal costs in the U.S. during recent years have led to a large increase in theft incidents of the converter, which can cost well over $1,000. to replace. Thank you and be safe, Wilshire Community Police Station Los Angeles Police Department Used Book Sale. Hardcovers $1, paperbacks $.50. Starts tomorrow during regular library hours.
Host: Friends of the library Location: Robertson branch Library 1719 S. Robertson Blvd Los Angeles Date and Time: Monday, February 24, 2014, 12:00PM until Thursday, February 27, 2014, 7:00PM A while back, a petition was started on change.org to let Von's know that we are tired of the substandard services the Pico/Fairfax store provides, but this forum wasn't as developed as it is now and the petition withered. Today, this online community is flourishing and if everyone who didn't know about, or hasn't already signed the petition does so now, maybe we can finally have a better, cleaner, safer supermarket in our neighborhood. One thing is clear; It won't happen unless we make it happen.
Please sign the petition on the link below, it just takes a second. VONS petition at CHANGE.ORG And while you're at it, send Von's a message directly to let them know we are tired of their neglect. Send message directly to VONS Beware in the last couple of weeks, there has been an increase in burglaries of residences under construction. Suspects are taking tools from the construction sites. A great deterent is using motion lights, surveillance cameras and secure equipment and the location.
There has been an increase of reported scams posing as debt collectors, usually claiming to be from a utility company. The scammer informs the victim they need to pay an outstanding bill immediately or else their service will be terminated. They then instruct the victim to purchase a "Green Dot Money Pak" card then call back with PIN number listed on the back. The scammers instantly access the payment from the card. LADWP will not require anyone to use such a payment LACES (in front of school), 5931 W. 18th Street, Los Angeles
